Advocate Magazine the latest casulty in LGBT media

Nov 22nd, 2009 | By Publisher | Category: National News

Advocate19720719coverThe 41 year old magazine “The Advocate” is the latest casualty in the gay and lesbian community’s loss of newspapers and magazines.

The Advocate announced:

“Due to a change in the publisher’s plans, The Advocate magazine has been discontinued as subscription title.  As an alternative, we suggest a subscription to our other monthly title, Out magazine. If you liked The Advocate, we’re sure you’ll enjoy Out.”

According to their 800 customer service, The Advocate print edition will be published as a compact version along with OUT Magazine. They don’t accept new subscription anymore, and they will continue serving existing subscribers with ‘compact version’ until current subscriptions expires.

  1. That is sad. I hate to see them go.

  2. I actually let my OUT subscription lapse because it had turned to trash. I much preferred the Advocate because it actually carried articles of substance. Politics that affected us as a community. Relevant thing. For 41 years, The Advocate has served our community by bringing us real news and articles. OUT has turned into mindless fluff. Why would they keep OUT and send The Advocate on its way when I think it should be the other way around?!?!?!?!

I just might let my subscription lapse. That’ll REALLY teach them a lesson…one that might be the death knell in gay publication all together! Don’t blame me. I want my money to be spent wisely…not on mindless fluff.

  3. So sad. I have no interest in out. The Advocate actually had some intelligent articles, not just frivolous ads and semi naked photos. I will DEFINITELY be letting my subscription lapse.

  4. Great article . Will definitely copy it to my website.
