With one openly gay candidate running for Lexington’s top government position (previous story), organizations in Louisville have invited candidates running for Louisville Mayor to a public forum on February 02, 2010.
The Mayoral forum is being hosted on the second floor of the Metro United Way Building in Louisville, KY and is scheduled to last approximately two hours, beginning at 6:00 a.m. There is no cost for admission.
Organizations participating in the forum include (but may not be limited to) Louisville’s Fairness Campaign, Community Farm Alliance, Fairness Campaign, Kentucky Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression, Kentucky Jobs with Justice, Making Connections Network, Metropolitan Housing Coalition, and Women In Transition.
Louisville followed Lexington’s lead in 2003 and formed a more effective, consolidated city-county government by eliminating duplication of public services. Under Kentucky law, a consolidated city-county government is simultaneously a city, which is a municipal corporation; and a county, which is an administrative subdivision of the Commonwealth. Consolidated city-county governments in Kentucky enjoy the powers of both types of entities, but is also subject to the duties and responsibilities of both.
