Say it ain't so Curtis, KY desperately needs expanded gambling. People do not just volunteer to have their taxes raised and gambling with a 30-40% tax rate is the only pragmatic way to raise funds for KY's future. The standard response to this is that gambling is a regressive tax but I don't really have a problem taxing people who don't understand basic math. We already have all the negative effects of gambling in this area without any of the positives (those go to Indiana). Another positive of expanded gambling would be that Churchill Downs could be given the licences and transformed into the next giant casino/resort corporation. For KY and Churchill Downs to really compete on the world market we must have profesional sports (no college) gambling so that we can attract money/tourists from all over the midwest, northeast, and south. KY/Louisville is perfectly situated geographicly and has the advantage of not having any pro sports franchises that would object. Think about it, a chicago international grocery store owner would call his cousin to put $50 bucks down on a cricket game in India and the state of Kentucky would get 30-40% of the profits. We would definitely need another bridge downtown (local acces) to accomadate all the Hoosiers and yankees who would come to downtown Louisvillle or Churchill Hill Downs to subsidize the Kentucky educational system. We just need to figure out a way to get the religious fundamentalists to support or at least tolerate Louisville having another booster in its economic engine that subsidizes the majority of the state. I know Mark Twain said he hoped to die in the state of KY because everything there happens 20 years later but its high time KY actually did something bold to seperate itself and raise revenues. Its time to break the cycle of economic mediocrity and pro sports gambling is the most realistic way to do it .

As I said, my concern is that some are suggesting that Fischer is the only LGBT-friendly candidate in the race. I thought that needed to be corrected, as it isn't true.

I like Tyler Allen very much. I think he should have run for metro council this year and waited to run for mayor. He is very friendly and has great ideas, however I don't understand why his supporters have to always run down Greg Fischer, by saying Tyler Allen is more "progressive" or does more things for one group than Mr. Fischer does. I think it is wonderful that Tyler Allen went to the Fairness rally in Frankfort and went to the AIDS walk, however, Greg Fischer also comes to events and has been supportive of LGBT issues for years, I remember when he ran for the U.S. Senate he spoke in favor of LGBT issues, because it is "the right thing to do". Greg also attended Craig Scherman's Chocolate Party in Louisville, which is one of the largest fundraisers for the AIDS walk. I think instead of arguing about which candidate is "more supportive of LGBT issues" we should all be happy that finally we have several candidates who are extremely supportive of these issues and aren't afraid to say so publicly.

First, thank you Burn for your parody of Christian Conservative thought. I had a good laugh.

Second, while I agree that Greg Fischer would run an inclusive administration, I honestly see no real difference between him and Tyler Allen on LGBTI issues. Also, Tyler Allen has been very visible for our causes. I am frankly tired of the Fischer campaign followers acting like he is the leader in this area when Tyler Allen has just as much, if not more bona fides. Tyler has a large and growing LGBTI following and has received a lot of contributions from it.

Many conservatives believe that when gays are elected to political office, they only push LGBTI issues; what would you say to those conservatives?

Oh, yes, they do.

They want to transform Kentucky into their "Common Wealth" of ecstasy, orgies, sleeping with animals and everything in between the Commonwealth IN KENtucky will no longer be family values but instead Sodom and Gomorrah all over again. Man shall not lay with man. I can just imagine what a queer would want in return to do what is right for everyone *WINK, WINK*. Just bend him over his desk and you can have anything you want until you need something else.

Very good article.

I'm supporting Curt in his race for Jefferson County Judge/Executive. Your lead-in also mentioned Louisville has a gay-friendly candidate for mayor. That must be Greg Fischer, who I am also supporting. Greg's responses to Fairness related questions makes it clear he is for inclusion of the LGBTI community in the affairs of Louisville as a whole.

I would point out that the Fayette County Judge/Executive, Sandy Varellas, has several duties as provided in the Kentucky Revised Statutes, whereas the Jefferson County Judge/Executive does not. When elected Curt will be able to use the office to advance the causes he has been fighting for for many years.

Again, very good article.

Overall a good article especially when he said he tried not to think of David Williams.

Maybe Morrison would be better for the people as a representative or senator instead of the office he is currently running for.
