Louisville House District 28 has no pro-gay candidates

May 1st, 2010 | By Trevor Ashley, Contributor | Category: Kentucky Political News, Lead Story

House District 28 representing a portion of Louisville in the Kentucky House of Representatives is a hotly contested race, with no pro-LGBTI candidates.

The incumbent, Representative Charles Miller (D) faces a primary challenge from John Brewer (R), or Edward W. Springston (R) depending on the outcome of the primary election on May 18, 2010.

Representative Charles Miller (D) has served in the Kentucky House of Representatives since 1998 and serves on some very powerful Committees in the Kentucky House of Representatives. Representative Charles Miller (D) serves as Vice Chair of the House Education Committee, Vice Chair of the House Labor & Industry Committee, Vice Chair of the House Licensing & Occupations Committee, and Vice Chair of the House Transportation Committee.

Republican challenger John Brewer has been linked to a Facebook page called “DefendMarriage (1 man + 1 woman).”

In addition, on what appears to be his personal Facebook page, Mr. Brewer is a fan of the anti-gay Manhattan Declaration, which the Kentucky House of Representatives passed in Resolution 232.

Former Watergate felon Chuck Colson leads the Manhattan Declaration of so-called Christian principles. Colson is also a member of Washington, D.C.’s secret society, “The Family.” (previous story)

The Manhattan Declaration imposes right-wing “Christian” values on the Commonwealth.

Representative Charles Miller (D) also voted in favor of the Manhattan Declaration in the Kentucky House of Representatives in direct violation of Section 5 of Kentucky’s Constitution which reads:

No preference shall ever be given by law to any religious sect, society or denomination; nor to any particular creed, mode of worship or system of ecclesiastical polity; nor shall any person be compelled to attend any place of worship, to contribute to the erection or maintenance of any such place, or to the salary or support of any minister of religion; nor shall any man be compelled to send his child to any school to which he may be conscientiously opposed; and the civil rights, privileges or capacities of no person shall be taken away, or in anywise diminished or enlarged, on account of his belief or disbelief of any religious tenet, dogma or teaching. No human authority shall, in any case whatever, control or interfere with the rights of conscience.

In this election, when the Kentucky General Assembly failed to pass a budget, which will cause a lot of Kentucky’s Government to shut down on June 01, 2010, no pro-gay candidate is running for office in House District 28.
