Kentucky Senate President Williams: Republican victories in two Kentucky congressional races

WFPL News reports that Kentucky Senate President David Williams was busy during the weekend, making speeches and taking about Republicans taking additional seats in the Kentucky Senate. No pro-LGBTI legislation has made it through the Republican controlled Senate.



Toby Ray Lasure accused of killing ex-boyfriend Christopher Tolliver ruled fit to stand trial

Toby Ray Lasure, 33, the man accused of killing ex-boyfriend Christopher Tolliver, 31, in the parking lot of the Lexington Green Shopping Center last year was ruled competent to stand trial by Fayette Circuit Judge Kimberly Bunnell on Wednesday.



Kentucky’s representation does not support the Respect for Marriage Act

Not a single member of Kentucky’s Congressional Delegation has co-sponsored U.S. House Resolution 3567, the Respect for Marriage Act. It was quickly place in Committee, where it has remained buried since October 19, 2009. The Commonwealth’s U.S. House Delegation currently includes Ed Whitfield (R), Brett Guthrie (R), John Yarmuth (D), Geoff Davis (R), Hal Rogers (R), and Ben Chandler (D).



U.S. Weighs Lifting Ban on Gay Men as Blood Donors; Kentucky Could Still Prosecute

Experts at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services are midway through two days of hearings on whether a decades-old ban on gay men donating blood should stand or be lifted. Many states criminalize gay men donating blood, so even if the U.S. Food and Drug Administration lifts the federal ban, gay males in 37 states could still be prosecuted by the state they live in. Most states make gay men donating blood a felony, however, 3 states make it a misdemeanor offense. The Commonwealth of Kentucky is among the 37 states that prosecute.

Lieutenant Governor and former Kentucky Senator Daniel Mongiardo (D) filed a complaint Tuesday with the Executive Branch Ethics Commission against his primary rival, Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway (D). Kentucky Equality Federation stepping up to make sure alleged Jackson County attempted murder charges are treated as a hate crime if convicted

The mother of a gay teenager says her daughter won’t return to Jackson County High School after an incident in which she claims three other girls tried to kill her. In an e-mail to Jackson County schools officials on Friday, the Kentucky Equality Federation disputed statements that the incident was a prank and asked for assurances of safety for gay students.



Gay professional wrestler Chris Kanyon is dead in apparent suicide; Kanyon was part of Northern Kentucky University’s National Coming Out Day in 2006

Former professional wrestler Chris Kanyon (real name Chris Klucsaritis) is dead at 40. Kanyon is believed to have died from a drug overdose Friday in his Queens, New York apartment, according to multiple Internet reports. He suffered from bipolar disorder and bouts of depression. Kanyon told students at Northern Kentucky University about his internal struggle admitting he was gay, which he said ended his professional career in wrestling.



Lexington Art League highlights Lexington’s diversity by exploring identity and transformation

With the World Equestrian Games coming to Lexington in September, the Lexington Art League has planned events to highlight the diverse culture Lexington has to offer people around the Commonwealth, the nation, and the world. According to the Lexington Art League, Passing: Fashioning Drag and Alternate Selves uses visual art to explore identity, investigate transformation and celebrate the courage required for individuality.
