Dee Johnson, the mother of Cheyenne Williams says the Kentucky State Police Investigator assigned to investigate the assault of her daughter perjured himself during the preliminary hearing in Jackson County on April 29, 2010. The judge reduced the charges against the three females charged with the attempted murder and kidnapping of Williams to misdemeanors. Johnson told Kentucky Equality Federation, the advocate for the victim, that the police officer testified he spoke to Sheila Clemons at Daniel Boone about the overall mental state and personal appearance of Cheyenne Williams when she arrived for her job interview after the assault. According to Johnson, who contacted Clemons, the police never contacted her about the investigation.

House District 28 representing a portion of Louisville in the Kentucky House of Representatives is a hotly contested race, with no pro-LGBTI candidates. In this election, when the Kentucky General Assembly failed to pass a budget, which will cause a lot of Kentucky’s Government to shut down on June 01, 2010, no pro-gay candidate is running for office in House District 28.

Facing a deadline of midnight tonight to adjourn, legislative leaders have yet to agree on a budget. Governor Beshear told Kentucky lawmakers to “get their egos under control” and produce a budget by midnight as Kentuckians expect. Currently, the new budget has no funding for the Kentucky AIDS Drug Assistance Program, but an effort led by Kentucky Equality Federation effectively killed House Bill 350, a bill that would have dismantled the education and prevention efforts performed by the Kentucky HIV/AIDS Branch, a unit of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services.

Governor Steve Beshear has been receiving threatening letters ordering him to resign according to his security detachment from the Kentucky State Police. Governor Beshear kept a campaign promise to Kentucky’s gay and lesbian community by issuing an executive order adding equal opportunity employment to all employees and prospective employees.

Budget negotiations in Frankfort collapsed Wednesday amid enormous differences over a sliver of the spending plan that would create a spate of state-backed construction projects while adding to the Commonwealth’s debt. Organizations across the Commonwealth have expressed alarm and dismay that the budget will be passed that does not include funding for the Kentucky AIDS Drug Assistance Program (KADAP).

The separation of church and state are even more blurred in Kentucky thanks to a resolution passed by the House of Representatives. The Kentucky House of Representative passed an anti-gay right-wing resolution. The House passed Resolution 232, the Manhattan Declaration, with a 45 member vote; 55 members of the House didn’t vote, mostly Democrats.

In a proposed commonwealth budget that allocates over $3.4 billion for road projects, a small request of $3.5 million to fund the Kentucky AIDS Drug Assistance Program (KADAP) has been ignored, leaving hundreds living with HIV/AIDS facing difficult choices. The nearly 1300 patients enrolled in KADAP, which is currently unfunded, receive medications through a hodge-podge of resources that are temporary and unsustainable. In the meantime, Kentucky has the longest waiting list in the nation for drug assistance—numbering over 160 men and women—with more being added every day.

Former Governor and current Kentucky Senator Julian Carroll (D) looses his cool with CNN. Many in Frankfort are upset with Senator Carroll for loosing his tempter and calling him an “embarrassment.” A CNN news crew followed the chair of Independent’s voters who is trying to change Kentucky law to allow Independents to vote in primary elections.

A representative from Kentucky Equality Federation forwarded this response from U.S. Representative Bart Stupak who denies involvement with the secret organization “The Family,” and Uganda’s proposed law to execute homosexuals or those who are HIV positive. The real scandal however is the secret society/organization known as “The Family.” The Family has long been a secretive organization, it maintains no public website and conducts no public fundraising activities.
