Kentucky Equality Federation joins Red States in “Friend of the Court” brief to the U.S. Supreme Court

Statewide organizations whose citizens vote Republican (or red) in presidential and Congressional elections made a push today for marriage equality by filing an amicus brief which the United States Supreme Court which is currently scheduled to hold hearings on, and rule on the U.S. Defense of Marriage Act which prevents federal recognition of gay marriages on a federal level as well as California Proposition 8. Kentucky Equality Federation is representing the citizens of the commonwealth of Kentucky.



New York Republicans who voted for gay marriage paid a high price

As four Republican state senators, one by one, agreed to break with their party and cast a politically risky vote to legalize same-sex marriage last year, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and gay-rights advocates vowed to do everything in their power to protect them against political retribution. But when the Legislature returns to Albany next month, only one of those four senators will be among those sworn into office.

The 2012 elections are behind us, and the various gains for the advocates of equality can not be denied. A shift is occurring it would seem, from the previous streak of marriage equality in the states being struck down to a new wave of states embracing equality for it’s citizens. President Obama’s stance on Marriage equality has been labeled as having “evolved” from his previous position of being against marriage equality itself to one of luke warm support. Mitt Romney’s position was one of supporting a Constitutional ban on gay marriage, which is a stance of opposition against states’ rights and their 10th Amendment rights to enact laws willed by the people.



North Carolina constitutional amendment leave many waiting for benefits to be terminatd

In North Carolina, cities and counties that offer domestic partner benefits to employees are in limbo after voters passed a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. In some other states, such amendments have led to the end of domestic partner benefits for public workers. And that’s exactly what some families in North Carolina are afraid of. Legal experts say same-sex couples have reason to worry about these plans ending.



Catholic pastor: Gay marriage simply can’t happen

Dolly Parton apologies to lesbian couple over controversial Dollywood T-shirt incident

A pioneer and the Queen of County Music, Dolly Parton apologized to a lesbian couple asked to leave her Tennessee theme park, Dollywood. Wearing a T-shirt “marriage is so gay,” is controversial and contradictory to public service announcements by Whoopi Goldberg, Cyndi Lauper, Miley Cyrus, Wanda Sykes, and other celebrities asking people to refrain from saying “that’s so gay,” “queer,” and other offensive language to the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgende​r community. The theme for the public service announcements are intended to get people to “think before they speak.”



Louisville Church stops all marriage licenses in protest of Kentucky’s anti-gay marriage amendment

The Douglass Boulevard Christian Church in Louisville (Disciples of Christ) unanimously voted to end the practice of signing marriage licenses because they give legal benefits to heterosexual couples that are not available to homosexual couples.



Prop. 8 supporters argue that U.S. appeals court exceeded jurisdiction

If last month’s ruling overturning Proposition 8 survives, same-sex marriage should be available only to the two homosexual couples who challenged the ballot measure and should remain barred for the rest of the state’s gay and lesbian population, sponsors of the measure told a federal appeals court.



November election uncertain and lawmakers are reluctant to prefile bills
